The Student Internship Program

We are excited to offer an internship program that is designed to provide meaningful experiences in the field through research-based projects, site visits, and opportunities to engage with professionals in archaeology.

These relationships are intertwined with the cultural tapestry of the indigenous communities they serve and the high standards of being meaningful stewards of the land.

 
 
 

The Internship Program at a Glance

GeoVisions is excited to offer a 10-week internship program that will offer unique and important opportunities for students pursuing a degree and hopeful career in one of the many branches of archaeology.

Continuous 10-week Program

  • Consecutive start date with the Fall 2024 academic quarter/semester (respective to your university/program)

  • Up to 20 hour per week commitment

  • $25.00 per hour

 

Program Details

Gain crucial experience in the field through:

  • Participating in Archaeology Through an Indigenous Lens (Cultural Resource Management - CRM)

  • Exploring Research Designs

  • Applicational Learning Beyond Academia

  • In-person site visit(s)

    • Meeting with The Culture and Heritage Committee

    • Collaboration with management at the Branch of Natural Resources

    • Working with culturally diverse communities

    • Possibility for meeting with local State and Federal Tribal Governments (When appropriate)

  • Participating in non-extractive archaeology – enhancing the Warm Springs community

 
 

Program Incentives

  • Network with experts in their studies and ask challenging questions to spark insight, further conversations, and engage with new communities.

  • Employment and educational experience to translate to your resume and/or gainful employment with GeoVisions.

  • Upon successfully completing the internship program, GeoVisions will cover the costs of registration and attendance at the 2025 Northwest Anthropological Conference as a presenter (2024 information as of 6/10/2024 - for reference purposes only).

 

Tentative Schedule

  • Onboarding Project Design - Development of Research Questions

    • Design open to negotiation between community and intern interest (Visual = Comic, poster, etc.)

      • Complete HR Paperwork/Policies & Procedures

      • Introductions (Familiarize with organization)

      • Setting up Email/Accounts/Passwords etc.

      • Review duties and job responsibilities

      • Any additional software/program training

  • Collaborate with Leadership

    • Meet Culture & Heritage and Warm Springs Leadership via the Branch of Natural Resources and other partners

    • Potential for site visit(s) Could be (1+ days)

    • Office tour

    • Tour of Warm Springs

  • Background Research

    Developing presentation materials for “Findings Presentation” (e.g. Poster, Visual, Video etc.)

  • Present Findings to Culture & Heritage and/or the appropriate Cohort(s) or Community-based entities.

  • Review essay, presentation materials, and provide exit Interview(s) with GeoVisions staff and/or community members.

other areas of interest within predetermined project areas, contractually overseen by geovisions

 

Requirements For Eligibility

  • Must be 18 or older.

  • Must be Currently Enrolled (Active) in an archaeology educational program (Preference given to BIPOC/indigenous students in a graduate program).

  • Must complete the 10-week program consecutively, start to finish (Contractual).

  • Must be able to apply through the online portal and provide the necessary components in the application (See Online Application). If you need assistance in completing the application, please reach out to rchapman@wsgeovisions.com

  • Engage and Participate in interview(s) with GeoVisions’ staff as a component of employee onboarding.

  • Access to a computer that can run the web-based application Basecamp and offers a reliable internet connection.

  • Attend (At least) 1 GeoVisions Staff Meeting (Virtual)

  • Attend (At least) 1 Executive Board of Directors Meeting (Virtual)

  • Provide feedback in the form of direct communication and ongoing write-ups through research design, critical assessment, and generating reports.

  • Pending, but likely will be required: Successful completion of standard drug testing (Oral swab or UA testing upon hire).
